Today's report covers three movement stories: NBC and the AP have projected Xavier Becerra into California's November gubernatorial general election[5][6]; a new JMC Analytics poll shows Trump-endorsed Mike Mazzei leading Oklahoma's GOP gubernatorial primary at 24% to Attorney General Gentner Drummond's 20% nine days before voting[1]; and a Quantus Insights survey puts Texas Senate Democrat James Talarico within two points of Republican Ken Paxton (n=800, ±3.5pp)[7].
Oklahoma governor primary — post-endorsement reshuffle. JMC Analytics, polling after President Donald Trump's endorsement of former state senator Mike Mazzei, found Mazzei at 24% among likely Republican primary voters, with Attorney General Gentner Drummond at 20%, former state senator Jake Merrick at 12%, former Public Safety Secretary Chip Keating at 10%, and former House Speaker Charles McCall at 7%; 25% were undecided[1]. After leaners were allocated, JMC reported Mazzei held a four-point lead over Drummond, with Merrick and Keating tied for a distant third[2]. The Newsweek write-up notes Mazzei and Drummond are statistically tied within the poll's margin of error[1]. The Oklahoma GOP primary is scheduled for June 16[3].

California governor — Becerra clinches a top-two slot. The Associated Press called the California gubernatorial primary at 7:50 p.m. EDT on June 5, projecting former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra into the November general election[5][6]. As of 8:06 p.m. ET Friday, Becerra had 26.7% (1,681,230 votes); former Fox News host Steve Hilton stood at 26.4% (1,666,522 votes), and Democrat Tom Steyer at 21% (1,328,712 votes), with the AP reporting 67% of votes counted[9]. The identity of Becerra's general-election opponent remained unresolved, with Hilton and Steyer in a close race for the second spot as election officials continue counting mail ballots[5][8]. Steyer self-funded the race with $215 million of his own money, per Chicago Tribune[5].

Texas Senate — competitive polling against a Republican baseline. A Quantus Insights survey conducted June 3–4 of 800 likely Texas voters (±3.5pp) showed Republican Ken Paxton at 45% and Democrat James Talarico at 43%, a two-point margin[7]. Earlier polls have shown similar narrow gaps: Texas Public Opinion Research had Talarico 47%, Paxton 44% (n=1,670, ±2.8pp, field end May 28); Public Policy Polling had Talarico 45%, Paxton 38% (n=643, internal D-aligned, field end May 23); Texas Southern University had Paxton 45%, Talarico 45% (n=1,223, ±2.8pp, field end May 6)[7]. CNN's analysis notes the Talarico–Paxton race fits a broader pattern of competitive 2026 Senate polling in Trump-leaning states[8]. Paxton attended a fundraiser at a lobbying firm near the White House on Tuesday with Senator Ted Cruz and six other Trump-aligned senators; Senate Majority Leader John Thune was “noncommittal” on directing GOP campaign funds to Texas, per Houston Chronicle[10].
- Maine Senate movement: two June 3 polls of the Collins–Platner matchup — Public Policy Polling (n=670, ±3.8pp, internal D-aligned) showed Platner 49% to Collins 45%, and Fabrizio, Lee & Associates (n=800, ±3.5pp, internal R-aligned) showed Collins and Platner tied at 46%.
- Virginia Senate: a Public Sentiment Institute/Virginia Project poll (n=1,047, ±3.7pp, field end May 5, R-aligned sponsor) had incumbent-aligned Democrat Mark Warner at 54% versus Republican Kim Farington at 29%, with independent Mark Moran at 2%.
- Texas Senate, recent batch: 28 polls were scraped overnight spanning late 2025 through April 2026; margins among individual surveys ranged from R+8 (Change Research, Nov. 26) to D+8 (University of Texas/Texas Politics Project, April 20).
