Today's report covers simultaneous rating changes in two Ohio statewide contests, fresh July polling in Wisconsin's governor race showing the Democratic primary field leading Republican Tom Tiffany, and new national survey data tracking President Trump's approval among men and broader public mood with four months remaining before the 2026 midterms.
The aggregator moved Ohio's governor race from tilt-Democratic to tossup in today's update, narrowing the polling average margin from D+1.50 points to D+0.29 points. The most recent survey, a Siena College poll conducted through July 1, found Amy Acton (D) and Vivek Ramaswamy (R) tied at 47% each (n=601, ±5.0pp).[1] An AARP poll through June 25 gave Acton a three-point edge at 47%–44% (n=800, ±3.5pp).[2] Prediction markets currently place Republican implied probability at 51.5¢ (Polymarket) and 54¢ (Kalshi) for the governor race.
Ohio's Senate special election — pairing former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) against Lt. Gov. Jon Husted (R) — moved from tilt-Republican to lean-Republican in the same update cycle. The most recent Siena College poll (through July 1) shows Husted leading Brown 50%–47% (n=601, ±5.0pp).[1] An AARP survey through June 25 had Brown ahead 48%–45% (n=800, ±3.5pp).[2] A Fox News poll from early June found Brown leading 53%–45% (n=1,015, ±3.0pp).[3] Fox News identified the Ohio Senate contest as one of 12 races central to determining Senate majority control.[4] A Reuters report noted that a Supreme Court ruling could erode Democrats' traditional fundraising advantage in Senate battlegrounds including Ohio.[5]
Wisconsin's governor race attracted new polling this week. A Wedgewood Polls survey (field end July 6, n=707, ±4.4pp) tested three Democratic primary candidates against Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany in general-election matchups: former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes led 48%–44% (D+4), state Sen. Sara Rodriguez led 47%–42% (D+5), and state Rep. Francesca Hong led 47%–44% (D+3).[8] The Wedgewood results represent a shift of 1–3 points above the prior polling consensus of D+2.0, set by earlier TIPP surveys. The race carries a current rating of lean-Democratic. Politico reported that progressive organizations have identified Wisconsin as one of the clearest tests of whether a democratic-socialist candidate can win statewide, with Hong running on affordability and opposition to data center expansion.[7] Newsweek noted that Hong has moved into a leading position in some polling ahead of the August primary.[6]

New national survey data offers a broad public-mood baseline four months before Election Day. A poll reported by Newsweek on July 6 found President Trump's net approval rating among men — a core demographic from his 2024 coalition — has declined from earlier readings in his term.[9] A separate Politico/NORC poll found that 27% of U.S. adults say the country's Founders would be proud of the nation today, while 51% said they would be disappointed and 22% said neither or weren't sure.[10] AP News reported that Trump's approval has declined as tariffs and the start of a conflict in Iran created headwinds, even as the S&P 500 has risen roughly 10% in 2026.[11] The Hill reported a rising anti-incumbent mood that analysts identified as a potential risk for Republican congressional majorities heading into November.[12]
